This game not only maintains the core elements that made Breath of the Wild so incredible, but it also expands upon them in exciting and innovative ways. I couldn’t wait to dive into this new adventure in Hyrule.

Familiar mechanics
I found the continuation of the mechanics that made Breath of the Wild a groundbreaking game in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom seamless. If you’ve played Breath of the Wild, you’ll find yourself right at home with the combat and other gameplay mechanics in Tears of the Kingdom. This familiarity allows you to dive straight into learning Link’s new abilities and exploring the vast world without a steep learning curve.
Expanded world
Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has expanded, and there is so much more to explore and discover. The most exciting for me are the caves, sky, wells, and creepy chasms, each with its own distinct atmosphere and secrets. The level of immersion in Hyrule has really levelled up with this game!

But it’s not just the world itself that I’m captivated with—it’s the story that unfolds within it. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces a compelling narrative that takes place after the events of Breath of the Wild.

Of course, you’ll likely get sidetracked and distracted along the way with all the exploring!

Should you play Tears of the Kingdom before Breath of the Wild?
While it is possible to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom without experiencing Breath of the Wild beforehand, playing the latter will enhance your appreciation of the world, characters, and lore that Tears of the Kingdom is built upon.
